Some are fortune to be born into an equestrian family, where they have the choice to pursue those interests to varying degrees.
Others, like me, don't come from a family of horse people, but still managed to get bitten by the bug somewhere along the line. In my case, the obsession started in very early childhood, in a tiny, rural Minnesota town, and has never gone anywhere. Not really. College, career and a family of my own... put a check next to each of those boxes. My daughter, Lauren, is - as of the time of this writing - approaching the magical age of 13. An official teenager in just a couple short months. And now seems like the perfect time for me and her to explore this lifelong dream of mine together. My sister said it best, "if not now, when?"
So, at 47, I'm dipping my toe into horse ownership a bit later than most. The whole point of this blog and website is to share the journey, and to encourage others like me to take a leap of faith and get involved yourself. Do I have a ton to learn? Oh, absolutely. And I'm 101% 'all in' and committed to putting in the time and soaking up as much knowledge as I can along the way. There's a lot to know. I'm sure there will be bumps in the road, and I'll share them - and the successes - as they come.
I hope you check back in from time to time to see how we're progressing. And if you're like me - hopelessly bitten by the love of horses and the desire to have your own - I hope to inspire and encourage. You can do it. Your path may look very different than mine. That's okay. No one else's path is supposed to be the same as another's anyway. It's never too late.
Thanks for visiting , and enjoy our tale. Best... ~Kelli
